and a little history
Surprisingly this pub is not named after the animal like most pubs with this name but after the H.M. Customs Cutter called “The Fox” that sailed directly off these shores in search of illegal cargo in the late 18th century, which is why you see a ship hanging outside the pub. The pub is steeped in history with its oak panelled walls filled with old pictures and snippets of village life along, including a list of every landlord since 1790. It was also once the watering hole of the poet William Blake who lived opposite the pub and where he was famously arrested and charged with sedition on a jumped up charge involving a drunken soldier staying at the Fox. If you're sitting on table five you will be sitting in what is still known as "The Royal box" because that's where the gentry would sit and enjoy a pint of ale.
